以李商隱生於唐德宗貞元十五年（公元799年），死於大中十三年（公元859年），符合歷史「僅得中壽」的歷史論斷，也符合元和十三年十月「令狐楚鎮河陽，（李商隱）以所業文干之，年才及弱冠。楚以其少俊，深禮史性之，令與諸子遊」的記載。
　　由於李商隱戀人宋若荀是宮中女學士，接觸官吏較多，又是女道士，身患冤屈後信仰佛教，因而年譜中加入與宋若荀情詩，杜牧，許渾，溫庭筠流曆內容，並將其從幕文集加入，形成完整經歷。
